About This Project

Erskine Mansion House, a Grade A listed building, was formerly used as a veterans’ care home and was acquired by our client for conversion to a 5 star hotel.

White Hill Design Studio LLP was commissioned to work on the detailed development and implementation of the hotel refurbishment through the building warrant and construction stages.

The project involved extensive demolition of existing buildings which had been added to the historic house. The demolition of these buildings returned the Mansion House to its original setting within the landscaped grounds. The Mansion House was significantly refurbished to create a luxury 53 bedroom hotel with destination spa and swimming pool.

To meet the tight deadline, the practice ran the project from an on-site office. The £15 million refurbishment started in late summer 2002. The hotel, now called Mar Hall, opened in July 2004 and with the completion of the Leisure Wing in January 2005, Mar Hall has become recognised as one of Scotland’s top Five Star Golf and Spa Resorts.
