White Hill Design Studio LLP is based in the beautiful Annan Water valley, just north of Moffat, in Dumfries and Galloway.
David Major established the practice in 1997, setting out to focus on sustainability and ecological design and to create buildings that contribute more to their environment than they take from it through construction and use.
Since 2005, the practice has operated as a Limited Liability Partnership, with Jane Gray joining David Major as partner.
From the beginning, we have been involved with a diverse range of projects, moving beyond formal architecture into landscape and Permaculture design and community involvement.

Though architecture is the main area of our portfolio, we always look at buildings in the context of the people who use them and their setting, allowing us to consider and develop interiors, landscapes and community.
We work with a wide range of clients including community groups, statutory organisations such as Forest Enterprise, the Scottish Executive and the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority, as well as commercial developers and private clients.
Our client portfolio has increased steadily, allowing us to deliver a wide variety of projects in different market sectors across Scotland and elsewhere in the UK.
